Bianka Barniaková (b. 2002, Slovakia)

Bianka Barniaková is currently studying sculpture at UMPRUM in Prague. Her current work is defined by working with marble as an organic mass.

Alongside sculpture, she writes texts and paints pictures, which she “models” much like her sculptures – chiselling and deforming them. In recent years she has been exploring the connection between these two levels and looking for shared aesthetic principles.

Like her sculptures and texts, her paintings are made outdoors, where she is inspired by the rhythm of nature and the process of constant change.

In her work, Bianka deals with questions of memory, collective and personal history, and their connection to material. Her work is built on subtle visual gestures and minimalist interventions that serve as fragments of memories.

She works with gentle abstraction, natural textures and a sensitive colour palette, creating an atmosphere of nostalgia and impermanence.

Her works are introspective, often balancing on the border between reality and dream.
